Choosing the proper lens type for your riflescope is important. I have inclused some of the important features and information for making your proper selection however there are more to consider that we will talk about anther time.

The distance that your eye must be to the ocular lens to get a full, clear picture is called eye relief. With many manufacturers lenses are coated with multiple layers of anti-reflective coatings for unmatched sharpness, resolution, and light transmission that borders on the theoretical maximum of 99. In some brands lens frames for a zoom lens system is axially slidably mounted in said riflescope tube for movement toward and away from each other for altering the magnification of the riflescope. Scopes transmit available light through the lenses to your eye, always losing a bit in the process. The larger the objective lens, the more you get through your eyepiece. Higher powered scopes are sometimes very critical in relation to the centering of your eye through the middle of the tube, and the distance your eye must be from the ocular lens. Higher recoiling guns including slug guns require lots of eye relief to prevent “scope eye” or the cut that somepeople get from the ocular lens of the scope coming back under the recoil and cutting a semicircular gash above the shooter’s eye. Leopold might have something going with their new VX-L line of scopes that combine a large objective lens with a contoured bottom that doesn’t interfere with your gun barrel, and lets you mount up to a 56mm lens with low rings. It is very possible to have a scope with single coated lenses to greatly outperform a scope with multicoated lenses. Fully multi-coated, scratch-resistant coatings eliminate annoying, image-degrading reflections and offer extraordinary brightness for a lifetime of trouble-free lens protection. Fully coated lenses for clarity in low and bright light.
